Daniel Powell, founder of GNR8 Academy and Judo Athlete bagged himself a Silver Medal at the IBSA Egypt Grand Prix this week!

Powell defeated M. Aly (Egypt) with a great bit of ashi waza for waza-ari before progressing to the semi final with a strangle for ippon score. Victory against A. Watson (USA) via two waza-ari scores progressed Powell to the final to face top seed and world number 1, Cavalcante Da Silva (BRA). Powell was caught with 20-seconds of the contest remaining, meaning he had to settle for silver.

Dan, who has been practicing Judo since the age of 10, has always been passionate about the sport and has worked tirelessly to improve his technique and abilities. Powell’s performance at the competition was exceptional, demonstrating his strength, agility, and tactical prowess.

Looking forward, Powell has set his sights on the Paris 2024 Paralympics, where he hopes to represent his country and win a gold medal. His determination and passion for Judo make him a strong candidate for the Paralympic team, and his recent success at the Alexandria Grand Prix only strengthens his chances of qualifying for the competition.
